Rent or hire a car in Italy : Auto Europe with Villas-Italy

Hire Cars and Driving Tips in Italy

Auto rental

Car rental is available from all the major agencies at most of the airports and major cities in Italy. Our customer service department has reviewed the various pricing and prefers Auto-Europe, a company which has negotiated availability through all the major hire companies and offers clients a 6% discount off the best listed prices offered by the majors. You may find cheaper offers if you've time to look around, but generally they have proven to be price competitive and reliable. A link to their site follows:

Driving tips in Italy

A car offers many advantages in terms of freedom of movement, and many of the villas are a little inaccessible without one, however, a word of warning – some old roads were not designed with the car in mind, and the local population show little regard for road rules. Have a little (or a lot) of patience and 'nudge' your way around carefully.

Unfortunately in Italy, the signage and directions on the road are atrocious and indications are often placed in inconvenient positions (like around the corner). The Italians have an expression 'sempre avanti' which simply translated means if you’re in doubt and can’t find an indication, keep following the road. Traffic hotspots can be found during peak season, that is in Italy the month of August.

On booking your rental villa with us, we will provide detailed arrival instructions which indicate directions and checkpoints along the road from wherever you are arriving to the villa

Parking

In most Italian cities you can park within blue lines and must buy pre paid scratch tickets at tobacconists and newspapers shops.
