Apulia, Val d Itria, Cisternino

Cisternino is another of the white hill top towns that characterise the Val d'Itria area. The impeccably clean, pedestrian only centre with its narrow white alleys and numerous nooks and craneys is a wonderful place to explore.

One of the unique features of Cisternino is the 'Macelleria pronto forno' - butcher shops where one may enter, select the meat they would like to eat, then take a table in an adjoining room where they can enjoy a glass of wine and order side plates whilst the meat is being cooked. Inexpensive and of exceptional quality, it's a big draw card of the area.
