Lombardy, Lake Como, Argegno

Argegno is one of the smallest municipalities around the lake and this alone is a good reason for visiting it. The Via Regina leads into an attractive tree lined square, with a choice of cafes and restaurants. Frome here a network of medieval alleys with gently sloping steps leads to the upper village, leading the discovery of unique corners: the Roman bridge over the river Telo, the Vicolo dei Mulini with its buildings perched high above the lake, and the 17th century channels dug into the rock have survived intact to this day.

More about the area

It is said that Argegno, with its four mills, was once a centre for grinding corn and maize, as well as chestnuts from Val d'Intelvi. It is well worth taking a gentle stroll up to the Sanctuary of S.Anna (17th century), along the mule-track dotted with small religious buildings, or taking the chairlift to Pigra: the panorama is superb!
