In spite of its little-known charm, Pistoia is a delight to discover. It is nestled in the heart of Tuscany, a stone's throw from Florence, Lucca and Siena, yet overlooked by tourists. As far as the town's prestige goes, it is not as grand as Florence, is less ancient than Siena, and is less complete than Lucca, and its name may not sound as catchy as others. In spite of this, Pistoia is a gem of a city. This rather small town retains all the components of an ancient Tuscan city - old walls, striped churches, frescoes, medieval watchtowers, and arcaded piazzas.
